What better name to enter the week of Valentine’s Day than Hart?
Short, strong, and sturdy, Hart packs a lot of punch in one syllable. This English name means “stag” (a male deer), but is homophonous with the word heart — a universal symbol of love and romance.
Hart has only made the US Top 1000 for one singular year — way back in 1888. Regardless, Hart feels approachable and straightforward, and plenty usable for a baby today.
50 baby boys were named Hart in 2022, as well as 11 baby girls. Another 110 baby girls and 11 baby boys were given the longer form Hartley, meaning “stag’s meadow”.
Famous namesakes include tragic poet Hart (born Harold) Crane, musician Lorenz Hart, and playwright Moss Hart.
