Happy Lunar New Year!
Also commonly called Chinese New Year, today signifies the first new moon of the lunar calendar. This day is celebrated with a multitude of festivities and traditions in China, as well as various other Asian countries.
Each year is associated with a Chinese zodiac animal, so today begins the year of the Dragon. In honor of this day, we are celebrating the lovely name Meilin, which is popular in China.
Pronounced “may-leen”, this name combines the components Mei (beautiful) and Lin (forest).
Many Chinese names are structured similarly, combining two characters in various arrangements. Mei is a particularly popular character in Chinese girl names, with a (literally) beautiful meaning and sound to match.
Meilin may be familiar to the younger generation through the tween protagonist of Pixar’s 2022 film Turning Red — Meilin “Mei” Lee.
Some other gorgeous Chinese girl names worth mentioning include Lihua (pear blossom), Zhilan (iris orchid), Mei Hua (beautiful flower), and Yanlin (swallow forest).
