Angela Anaïs Juana Antolina Rosa Edelmira Nin y Culmell — more commonly known as Anaïs Nin — was born on February 21, 1903 in France.
Born to Cuban parents, Nin was the daughter of the composer Joaquín Nin and the classically trained singer Rosa Culmell.
Throughout her lifetime, Anaïs established herself as a writer, authoring several successful novels, and famously publishing her personal journals spanning from age 11 until her death.
Anais is a variation of the classic Ann meaning “grace”, native to Catalonia as well as the Provence region of France.
