Happy Valentine’s Day!
There are a plethora of baby names that mean love especially fitting for this day, but today we will be discussing Eros: the Greek god of love and desire.
Eros — more commonly known by his Latin name, Cupid — is often depicted as a winged, cherub-like boy sporting a bow and arrow. In Greek mythology, Eros is known to shoot one of his arrows into the hearts of his targets (mortal and god alike), inducing intense feelings of love and desire.
In some tellings, Eros is the son of Aphrodite — goddess of love and beauty.
Eros makes appearances in DC comics as an ally of Wonder Woman, and is also the name of an asteroid in our solar system.
Along with several other Greek mythology names, Eros has been on the rise in recent years, given to 142 baby boys in the US in 2022. The name is most popular in Italy, where it has been in the Top 200 in recent years.
