American explorer Zebulon Pike, for whom Pikes Peak in Colorado is named for, passed away on April 27, 1813.
Pike is famous for leading two military expeditions through the Louisiana Purchase. His first, which took place in 1805-1806 took him north, following the Mississippi River. In 1807, he explored west, to the border of Spanish-occupied Texas and New Mexico, around Santa Fe. During this second expedition, Pike and his team sighted the mountain that would later bear his name (Pikes Peak) but were unable to ascend due to waist-deep snow.
During the War of 1812, Pike was awarded the rank of brigadier general. Pike led a successful attack on York (present day Toronto) but was killed during the battle.
Zebulon is a rare Biblical name, appearing in the Bible as Zebulun, the sixth son of Jacob and Leah. It comes from the Hebrew zevul, meaning “exalted house”.
In the United States, Zebulon has cracked the top 1000 only 5 times since the SSA started collecting data: in 1881, 1978-1980, and 1984. Its highest rank was #775 in 1979. In 2022, only 19 boys received the name Zebulon.
However, if you’re looking for a rare Biblical name for your baby boy, Zebulon is one to consider. Its zippy Z and clunky cool vibe gives it plenty of charm, and nickname Zeb is just as fun.
