Freya
Norse, "a noble woman"
Freya — an anglicization of the the Norse goddess of love, Freyja — combines a soft sound with strong Scandinavian roots.
Soundwise, it strikes a perfect balance between familiar and distinctive. So many girl names end in -eya, -aya, -ia, and similar sounds, yet so few start with Fr-. Mix that with the current love for mythological names and all things Nordic, and it’s no wonder Freya is a winner.
Everyone in Britain knows at least one Freya1: it has been a Top 100 girl name for almost 20 years, and is now in the Top 10. In recent years it has started to catch up in the US too, but time will tell if it makes it all the way to the top.
