April
English, Latin, "to open"
April might not be the favorite month name in the charts like it was in the 70s and 80s, but that doesn’t mean it’s lost all its appeal. Associated with the coming of Spring in the Nort
hern Hemisphere, it takes its name from the Latin aperio, meaning “to open, uncover”, in reference to the blooming of flowers, the opening of leaves, and more generally to new beginnings.
Also associated with rainy weather, the star signs Aries and Taurus, and sometimes with Easter too, Nameberry Guest Writer Katie explains why she thinks April is worth reconsidering:
Even if it’s traditionally attributed to older generations, she is such a sweet classic in my opinion! A happy, memorable name with very few associations in the real world or in the media — or if you enjoy Parks and Recreation, with April Ludgate — it’s a bright spring choice that I think works well all year long.

I love April! My favorite month name
