Waverley
English, "meadow of quivering aspens"
While the Waverly spelling is more popular for girls in the US, driven up the charts by the TV series The Wizard of Waverly Place and by Amy Tan’s novel, The Joy Luck Club, the -ley spelling ties it back to Walter Scott’s classic novel, Waverley, in which it’s borne by a male character. The name of various places in England and Scotland, it was used quietly for boys in the US in the early 19th-century.
Sound-wise, the name is (deceptively) reminiscent of the sea and the beach, but its actual meaning ties it to aspen trees and woodland!
I really enjoy it as an unexpected unisex option, similar in feel to Bellamy, Marlowe, or Avery.
