Susanna
Hebrew, "lily"
On November 4, 1909, the opera Susanna’s Secret was first produced, notable mainly because we love the underused classic name Susanna and wanted to write about it. Nearly three-quarters of babies given this name in the US last year got the Susanna spelling versus Susannah. But even with both spellings versions together, Susanna doesn’t make it into the Top 1000.
We blame Susan, one of the quintessential Baby Boom names, which ranked in the Top 10 from 1945 until 1968, peaking at Number 2 from 1957 through 1960. There were so many Susans born in the middle of the last century that it’s one of the top baby names of all time.
French version Suzanne is making a comeback in Paris, though, and we predict that flower names Susanna and Susannah will feel more fashionable in the decades ahead.
