On June 14, 1928, Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen disappeared while on a rescue mission, after becoming the first person to reach both poles. The name Roald is more familiar to most contemporary parents and children as a literary name, via Matilda and Willy Wonka author Roald Dahl. There were fewer than five baby boys named Roald in the US last year, making this a creative honor name for an ancestral Ronald or Roland.
