Pim
Dutch diminutive of William, "resolute protection"
Short, playful, and unexpected outside The Netherlands, Pim is a short form of Willem or William, used predominantly among Dutch speakers. The most recent stats placed Pim at #114 on the Dutch charts, though back in 2017, it reached #54, where it blended right in with Cas, Bram, Ties, and Senn.
But how do you get Pim from Willem? Likely in the same way you get Bill from Will or Polly from Molly.
The alternative — and perhaps more intuitive — Dutch diminutive Wim seems like a probable stepping stone and as such, Pim may have been the result of a childhood mispronunciation, a difference in regional accent, or perhaps even a blurring of Opa Wim or Papa Wim that just stuck.
