Born on July 12, 1895, legendary musical theater lyricist and producer Oscar Hammerstein II wrote with Richard Rodgers an astonishing number of classic musicals: The King and I, Show Boat, and The Sound of Music among others. Oscar is an attractive and deeply-rooted name that 15 years ago, we were afraid would get ruined by overpopularity .
