This week’s Name of the Week was nominated by @mellona!
If you would like to nominate a name yourself, you can head over to the name of the day thread on our forums.
Over the years, there have been a number of Scandinavian girl names that have made their way into the English-speaking world, from established classics like Kirsten, Sonia, and Ingrid, to rising modern favorites like Freya, Liv, and Astrid.
But we haven’t heard much stir about Lillevi — a striking modern Swedish name that perfectly balances standing out from the crowd while fitting into the growing number of stylish Lil- names today.
Lillevi is comprised of the Swedish word lilla, meaning “little”, as well as the suffix -vi which comes from Old Norse and means “devoted” — the end result of which can be translated as “little devoted one”.
Pronounced “LIL-eh-vee”, this lively moniker was given to less than 5 baby girls in the US last year.
Other unique Lil- names worth consideration include Lilivere, Liliosa, Lilibet, Lilias, Lilinoe, and Lilou.
