Happy April Fool’s Day!
To celebrate this day of jokes, pranks, and tricks, today’s featured name is Isaac, meaning “laughter”.
The origins of April Fool’s Day are disputed, but many parts of the world have held similar festivities and traditions dating back dozens of centuries. In Ancient Rome, the Hilaria Festivals were held on March 25, which included masquerades and disguises.
Old Testament Isaac was the long-awaited son of Sarah and 100-year-old Abraham. In the couple’s old age, the news of Sarah’s pregnancy was so shocking and outlandish that it was said to evoke laughter.
Isaac was a favorite name amongst the Puritans, and has since never fallen out of the Top 400. Starting in the 90s, however, Isaac has been a new level of cool, along with its cousin name Isaiah.
Solidly in the Top 50 since 2001, Isaac is cheerful and laid-back, with the bonus of grandpa-chic nicknames Izzy or Ike.
