Viveka
Viveka is a striking name with two unrelated etymologies — originating from both Scandinavia and India.
In Swedish and Nordic, Viveka — also commonly spelled Viveca or Vivica — means “alive” or “life.” With an upbeat, lively sound to watch the upbeat, lively meaning, Viveka would make an especially sweet name for a springtime baby.
In India, Viveka is of Sanskrit origin and means “wisdom” and “knowledge” — considered as the first requirement for the spiritual journey in Hinduism. Vivek is a common masculine form, although the name Viveka is occasionally given to boys as well.
With two beautiful meanings, and sharing sounds with popular names like Vivian, Vivienne, Viviana et al., it surprises us that Viveka and her variations have not caught on yet in the US.
In 2022, there were only 12 baby girls given the spelling Vivica, and less than 5 named Viveca or Viveka: A truly undiscovered gem.
