Winnie:
January 18 marks one of the cuddliest national holidays — Winnie-the-Pooh day — celebrated on the birthday of author A.A. Milne.
Milne created the characters Pooh-bear and his friends in the 1920s, inspired by a toy bear he bought for his real-life son, Christopher Robin. 100 years later, Winnie-the-Pooh is one the most beloved children’s characters to date, spreading kindness and curiosity to children across the world.
Winnie was at its most popular as a girl’s name in the late 1800s, following a similar trajectory as long-form Winifred. Sweet as can be, Winnie feels right at home today with vintage nickname revivals like Maisie, Nellie, Lottie, and Millie.
Winnie re-entered the Top 1000 in 2019 after a 62 year hiatus, and has shot up to #592 last year. Escaping its previous pet-name label, more parents are considering Winnie and her long forms for their daughters.
In addition to Winifred, some ideas for a full name for Winnie include Winona, Elowen, Winry, Gwendolyn, Wynne, Arwen, Winslow, and Winter.
Adorable -- never knew there was a Winnie the Pooh Day!
