Marley:
Musician Nesta Robert “Bob” Marley was born on February 6, 1945 in Nine Mile, Jamaica.
Considered one of the pioneers of Reggae music, Marley was renowned for his distinctive vocal and songwriting style and introduced Jamaican music across the globe.
Marley is an English name with the lovely meaning “pleasant seaside meadow”.
While unisex in theory, Marley as a baby name has leaned heavily female throughout the last few decades. Marley entered the US Top 1000 for girls in 1994 — a few years after Bob’s death — peaking in 2008 at #146.
As a boy’s name, Marley has popped in and out of the Top 1000 since 2008, never cracking the 700s. The bestseller book and film adaptation Marley and Me features a male pup named Marley, named after Bob himself.
I'm actually currently writing a redemption AU for another well-known Marley. That is, Jacob Marley from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. So I certainly approve of the name.
Love it!
