Leia
Actress Carrie Frances Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016 at the age of 60. Fisher was loved by so many for her iconic role as Princess Leia Organa in the original Star Wars movies.
The world’s love of Fisher’s badass princess persona led the name Leia to skyrocket up the charts. Leia first entered the Top 1000 in 1978 — the year after the release of the first movie, A New Hope.
Leia then fell back off the charts from 1981 until 2006 — around when the generation who grew up watching the iconic sci-fi films were having kids of their own.
Today Leia ranks at its highest ever at #256, feeling perfectly in line with fashionable names Layla, Leah, and Leilani (all in the US Top 100), but with a fantastical twist.
In England, Leia ranks at #409, and in Sweden, Leia is currently very popular at #28.
