Kobe:
Four years ago on January 26, 2020, basketball legend Kobe Bean Bryant tragically passed away in a helicopter accident along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant and several of her teammates and their families.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history, Bryant won 5 NBA championships in his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. In 2021, Bryant was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Following the accident, several Bryant-related names took off in popularity as fans across the US honored the late star and his daughter. Bryant rose from #828 in 2019 to #658 in 2020, Gianna rose from #78 to #12, and Kobe rose from #558 to #239.
Kobe is a Swahili name — a language that originated in East Africa — meaning “tortoise”. Feeling like a natural successor to 90s and early 2000s favorites Jacob and Cody, Kobe has strong ties to the NBA star but feels plenty usable for a baby today.
