Celeste
On December 4, 1872, the Mary Celeste — a Canadian and American merchant ship on a voyage from New York to Italy — was discovered adrift and deserted in the Atlantic Ocean.
The ship was described as “disheveled”, but still in “sea-worthy position”, and the lifeboat was missing. The crew was never seen or heard from again, and to this day the happenings of the Mary Celeste remain a mystery, but popular theories include piracy, crew rebellion, and natural phenomena.
Celeste is a soft and pretty name meaning “heavenly” — giving the name an angelic undertones. The word “celestial” is also associated with anything to do with the sky and space, putting the name Celeste in the running of Space Names like Luna, Aurora, and Nova, which are attracting today’s parents.
