Bowie:
Musician David Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016 at the age of 69. The English singer and songwriter is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, with numerous hit songs throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
David Bowie was actually born David Robert Jones, but changed his last name to Bowie to avoid confusion with another English musician — Davy Jones, frontman for The Monkees.
Today Bowie is still loved by the world for his distinct musical and personal style — so much so that parents are beginning to use this spunky Scottish surname for their babies.
Bowie made the US Top 1000 for boys for the first time in 2018 (two years after his death), and again in 2021. In 2022, 196 baby boys and 109 baby girls were given the name Bowie. The spunky nickname Bo, as well as the similarity in sound with trendy Bodhi, both add to Bowie’s widespread appeal.
Another Bowie-inspired name that we expect to take off in upcoming years is the zippy Ziggy, as in the musician’s alter-ego Ziggy Stardust.
Yay! Our youngest daughter is a Bowie. She is wild child, and Bowie suits her perfectly ❤️
