June 8 is cited by many historical accounts as the day the prophet Muhammad died in 632. Muhammad is the most popular name in the world and also the Number 1 boys’ name in Great Britain. A Muslim adage goes, “If you have a hundred sons, name them all Muhammad” — possible, given that there are said to be 500 names for the founder of Islam. Other widely-used spellings of Muhammad include Mohammed and Mohammad. More than 1400 baby boys were named Muhammad in the US last year.
