Magnus
Latin, "greatest"
Charming, hearty, and literary, Magnus is an all-around champion of a name. It lives up to its meaning — literally, “greatest”, from Latin.
But despite its Roman roots, Magnus has a distinctly Scandinavian flavor. Charlemagne was called Carolus Magnus and was a popular namesake for European baby boys. Norwegian king Magnus I introduced it to the region, and it’s been a classic Scandinavian choice ever since.
At last count, Magnus only ranked Number 749 in the US, making it a familiar-yet-unusual alternative to names like Alexander, Theodore, and Miles.
