Mädchen is a contemporary German word used to mean young girl. As a first name, Mädchen is closely associated with actress Mädchen Amick of Twin Peaks and Riverdale fame, whose birthday is December 12^th. Mädchen’s parents chose the name because they were both of German descent and wanted a German name that was also an unusual name. It is not commonly used as a first name in Germany itself.
