Horatio
English variation of Latin Horatius, "hour, time"
Led by Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson, the Battle of Trafalgar was fought on October 21, 1805, establishing Britain’s naval supremacy for the next century. Horatio has not ranked on the Top 1000 since 1899, making it a solidly Victorian name. This rare, ancient name was given to only eight baby boys last year, with another 37 receiving the somewhat more dashing Spanish version Horacio. The Shakespearean Horatio’s female version, Horatia, was given to Lord Nelson’s daughter.
