Hamish
Scottish variant of James, "supplanter"
Distinctively Scottish, Hamish is a variation of James, ultimately used as an anglicized form of Sheumais or Seumas. Currently in the Top 500 in England and Wales and the Top 100 in Scotland, Hamish is a popular option in Australia and New Zealand too.
Despite this, Hamish remains rare in the US, but with the possibility of cool nicknames Hayes and Misha, it could make a familiar yet unexpected option.
One big reason I love Hamish? I chose it for one of my guinea pigs! He was nearly a Jude but Hamish won out in the end.
