British suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst died July 14, 1928. Emmeline is one of the constellation of Em-starting names, including Emma, Emily, Amelia, Emilia, and even Emmett, that have become so popular in recent years. Emmeline is most closely related to Amelia and entered the Top 1000 for the very first time ten years ago, floating along near the bottom of the US Top 1000 baby names for a decade now. But it might feel more popular than its rank would indicate because of all the similar names. The last syllable can be pronounced to rhyme with wine or win.
