Samuel Colt received his revolver patent on July 19, 1836. Colt is technically both an animal name and a gun name, with more than 1200 baby boys named Colt in the US last year. Nearly 3600 boys were named Colton in 2024 and more than 1600 called Colter, meaning that about the same number of boys received a variation of this cool cowboy name, about the same number as were named Thomas and Jacob, placing it firmly within the Top 50.
