Albertine
French feminine form of Albert, "bright, noble"
Albie and Alby seem like they’re everywhere right now in the UK, while Albert and Alba are coming up frequently too. I do enjoy the bright meaning and the bubbly, bouncy sounds, but I’ve been loving the wonderful clunkiness of this elaborate feminine form even more.
With a slightly aristocratic French feel, reminiscent of Leontine, Georgette, and Apolline, Albertine was popular in France in the early 20th century and ranked in the US Top 1000 from 1880 up until the 1920s. Now out of style, could this be one to consider if you love the likes of Alma, Dorothea, and Clementine?
I first discovered the name after reading it in a news article, featuring the Instagrammer mummy_to_triplets_and_bro (Rebecca Woolridge) who chose Maya-Albertine for one of her triplet girls, and I just couldn’t get it out of my head! I enjoy the spirited but hefty feel of it and the great nickname potential, including Bo, Bertie, Alba, Albie, Bernie, Betsy, Allie, Bina, and Berry!
