Adele
French diminutive of Adelaide, "noble, nobility"
October 23 marks the anniversary of the premiere of Skyfall, with its amazing theme song by the great Adele. The French name Adele originated as a nickname for Adelaide. Consistently popular until about a hundred years ago, Adele went on a long downward slide from the 1920s until the late 1960s, when it fell off the Top 1000 completely, only to reemerge with the singer’s fame in 2010. With standing as a royal name, a saints’ name, and a literary name, the Skyfall singer has now turned Adele into a premiere musical name.
